Frequently Asked Questions

How long does each lesson take?

Each video lesson is just 2-4 minutes long. You can watch each lesson up to five times but most people find that once or twice is enough. You can then spend as long as you like practicing your pronunciation by downloading your free audio bite (mp3 file) of each phrase.

What is the difference between the 3 sign-up options - 5 weeks, 10 Weeks or 20 weeks?

The full "Survival Mandarin for Absolute Beginners" course is 20 weeks/100 lessons long. You can choose to sign up for the whole course (this is the best value option) or begin with the 5 week or 10 week option. At the end of your 5 or 10 week subscription you will be able to renew your subscription to continue on with the programme.

How many times can I view each lesson?

You are able to access each lesson five times. This is usually more than enough to become really familiar with the main points of each lesson. Remember that you are able to take away a sound bite of each phrase and a written summary of each lesson in PDF format.

How do I view the lessons?

Each weekday you will be sent a link your designated email address. Click on this link and you will be taken to a log in page. Fill in your username and password and you will then be taken through to your own personal lesson box with your next lesson ready to play. Alternatively you can log in on the Language Bite home page.

The videos are designed to be best viewed via broadband so unfortunately results on dial-up may be disappointing.

How do I improve my pronunciation?

Listen to your mp3 sound bite. Your free sound bite is designed to give you unlimited access to an excellent model of a native-speaker saying each new phrase. Download this onto your computer or MP3 player and listen to it over and over until you can hear and say the phrase with confidence.

Why don't the lessons focus on grammar and writing?

Language Bite focuses on spoken communication. The Language Bite programme is designed to get you confidently speaking and understanding useful, colloquial phrases in your chosen language. Therefore we teach you the phrase as a whole, to get you on your way rather than wasting time and energy on detailed grammatical analysis. A focus on written language is not included as the programme is aimed to help you communicate in face to face conversations and over the phone.

When does my daily lesson arrive in my email inbox?

First thing in the morning, Monday - Friday. When you sign up you will be asked to enter the time zone of your country or state. This is so that we can ensure your lesson will be available to you from the early hours of each weekday morning.

What happens if I miss a lesson?

Missed lessons remain in your inbox until the end of your subscription, so if you miss one you will be able to catch up.

Can I download the videos?
